Developers love to discuss the code. They just love one particular way of coding and just hate all the other. I’m no better because I clearly enjoy at least reading those debates. It’s like religious wars sometimes when some wants to portray themselves as prophets of technology and all the other as heretics, blind fanatics at best perhaps… Frequently whoever brings new toys to the sandbox goes for the high prize. Here’s what I’ve heard from some folks I’ve worked with who have been coding for 20 and even 30 years (in one case): it just doesn’t matter as long as you, your team do what you do consistently. I have my personal choices, clearly but have to admit I saw modern code in VB, PERL, APL for God’s sake (pencil on paper) and it looked good, if written consistently.
